CLINICAL INTERN THERAPIST - TELEHEALTH (WASHINGTON STATE)
Are you looking for a telehealth therapy role with an inclusive, values-driven practice?
About Us
Kirkland EMDR Counseling is a Washington-based teletherapy group practice dedicated to helping clients heal from trauma, reduce anxiety, and build resilience in a safe, inclusive, and client-centered environment. Led by founder and Clinical Director Chris Garrido-Philp, our team blends evidence-based techniques—such as EMDR, CBT, DBT skills, and mindfulness—with a strong commitment to social justice, equity, and anti-oppressive care.
Serving individuals across the state, we offer accessible care through private pay, commercial insurance, and Medicaid (Apple Health). Rooted in inclusivity, curiosity, and healthy boundaries, we are dedicated to helping clients process their past and create a more confident, fulfilling future.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking interns who are passionate about trauma work and ready to grow their professional identity. Because of the specialized nature of our practice, we are looking for specific foundational skills:
Education & Experience
Academic Standing: Current 2nd-year (or extended 3rd-year) student in a CACREP, COAMFTE, or CSWE accredited Master's Program (Clinical Counseling, Therapy, or Social Work).
Essential Trauma Experience: This is a critical requirement. Because we specialize in treating complex trauma, we need interns who already possess a baseline comfort with high-needs populations. We require at least two (2) years of direct social service experience (e.g., case management, housing support, crisis intervention) working specifically with vulnerable communities. We are looking for candidates who have already navigated the realities of systemic trauma and crisis work.
EMDR Commitment: You must commit to beginning an EMDRIA-approved "EMDR Basic Training" course prior to your start date. You can find a searchable list of approved trainings directly at EMDRIA.org. (See our Benefits section for details on how we help cover this cost!).
Skills & Attributes
Thriving in Autonomy: As a 100% remote practice, independence is key. You must be a self-starter who is comfortable managing your own workflow without physical oversight. We provide robust support, but we need team members who take the initiative to communicate needs, manage their technology, and structure their day effectively.
Growth Mindset: Strong communication skills and a willingness to embrace feedback, discuss areas of growth, and navigate mistakes with honesty and accountability.
Administrative Diligence: Ability to submit documentation in a timely manner and maintain a consistent schedule.
Schedule & Logistics
Availability: Ability to build a caseload of 10–15 clinical hours per week, with total availability of 17–20 hours (subject to your program’s specific requirements).
Required Hours: While you may set your own schedule M–F, you must be available Wednesdays at 11:00 AM for staff meetings and willing to see clients at least one (1) evening per week.
Exclusivity: To ensure you have the capacity for this deep clinical work, we ask that you do not pursue other internship placements without prior approval from us.
Internship Benefits & Support
We believe in investing in our interns. Here is how we support your learning and well-being:
Financial & Educational Support
EMDR Training Stipend: We provide an education stipend to reimburse you for the cost of the EMDR training you paid for initially. We will match your training costs up to a total of $1,500, distributed at the end of each completed academic quarter, semester, or trimester, depending on your academic program's structure.
Supervision: Weekly group clinical supervision that meets your academic program requirements.
Consultation: Opportunities to join Peer Consultation spaces and our EMDR Group Consultation (which counts toward certification once your basic consultation is complete!).
Tools & Resources
Fully Remote Setup: We provide HIPAA-compliant technology, including work email, an Electronic Health Record (EHR) system, voicemail, fax, VPN, and antivirus software.
Administrative Backing: Full office support to help navigate scheduling, client billing, and communication.
Marketing & Referrals: We handle the marketing through our website and social media to ensure you have a consistent flow of referrals.
Professional Development
Clinical Skills: Gain hands-on experience with documentation for insurance (intakes, treatment plans, assessments, progress notes).
Networking: Connect with our team of associate and fully licensed therapists for mentorship and support.
Future Opportunities: Potential for employment with the practice upon graduation.
